ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has directed NDMA to launch an anti-malaria campaign in flood-hit areas. Amid the eminent risk of spread of malaria in the areas recently affected by floods, the Prime Minister instructed the authority to take precautionary measures and get ready to cope with any danger, NDMA spokesman said here Saturday. So NDMA is sending assessment teams to the areas affected by floods, he said, adding that the teams comprised experts from UNDP, UN Habitat, UNESCO, UN OCHA, IOM and others. He informed that 12 teams of NDMA reached various flood-affected areas in Sindh in order to coordinate emergency relief operations in the localities. To a question regarding basic necessities for the flood affectees, he said that goods of basic necessity were provided to them and NDMA now instructed Utility Store Corporations to provide 50,000 additional ration packs. Bhatti said that another 10,000 tents were dispatched on Saturday and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority would ensure its further utilisation.
