QUETTA - Gastroenteritis claimed six lives in different areas of Khuzdar district, about 360 kilometres southeast of the provincial capital. According to reports, dozens of people have been suffering from gastroenteritis as the disease breaks out in different parts of the district, including Tehsil Zehri, Kand and Khuzdar city. Six patients, who were shifted to hospital, lost their lives owing to lack of health facilities. The deceased were identified as Zohib, Muhammad Rafiq, Hajo Khan, Mula Ilyas Ali and Murd Jattak. More than three dozens, including women and children were admitted in hospital after being caught by the disease. Kalat Division Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Khosa and Health director Dr Muhammad Murad Mengal have issued directives to provide proper treatment and medicines to the patients. Khuzdar Assistant District Health Officer Dr Shahnawaz said about 500 patients were brought to hospital during past four days and 40 were still under treatment while other patients were discharged. He said that the situation was under control and the patients were being provided proper medical treatment.
