OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE City police are still unable to make any breakthrough in the two high-profile abduction incidents, which took place here in the provincial capital last month and made headlines in the world media. Shahbaz Taseer, the son of slain Governor Punjab Salman Taseer, and American development expert Dr Warren Weinstein were kidnapped by gunmen from Gulberg and Model Town areas on August 26 and 13 respectively. Police sources said on Saturday that the kidnapping of Shahbaz Taseer was still a mystery as the police and intelligence agencies are probing into the incident to ensure safe release of the kidnappee. The police searched and collected the 'leftover-evidences from the crime scene and also carried out search operations in different parts of the City but the investigators are still empty-handed. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had ordered Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmed Raza Tahir to ensure early release of Taseers son. According to the police sources, the kidnappers, in both the cases, have neither contacted anybody nor did they make any demand. The CCPO claimed that the police got some solid clues and they were near to those who abducted Shahbaz Taseer and Dr Warren but the investigators are still groping in the dark. Meanwhile, the killer, who gunned down three brothers in Mughalpura area and fled away from the crime scene on Tuesday, is still at large. Police sources said that the investigators arrested the brother, father and mother of the killer but the main culprit in the case, was yet to be arrested. The three brothers, later identified as Kabeer Ahmed, 43, Abdul Rasheed, 53 and Naeem, 37, had just left their residence to reach the airport when a gunman intercepted their carry-van and sprayed it with bullets near Shalimar Link Road. According to the police, one Zahid Iqbal Khan, said to be neighbour of the deceased men, carried out the brazen attack when Naeem and Kabeer were going to drop their third brother Muhammad Rasheed at the airport. A police officer claimed that three persons namely Sajid Gujjar, brother of Zahid, his mother Zarreen Bibi and father Faqeer Muhammad have been arrested and raids are underway to nab the killer. Police said that they were investigating whether the killer had monetary dispute with his neighbours or he killed all the three brothers in revenge after his wife had developed illicit relations with one of the deceased.
