Ponting to miss 2nd Test

GALLE (Agencies) - Australias senior batsman Ricky Ponting is heading home for the birth of his second child and will be replaced by dashing opener David Warner in the squad for the second Test against Sri Lanka. Warner will join the Australian Test squad in Sri Lanka as a standby player for Ricky Ponting, who is returning to Australia tonight for the birth of his second child, said Cricket Australia in a statement. Ponting will miss the second Test of Australias VB Tour of Sri Lanka and plans to return in time for the third and final Test of the series in Colombo. Warner will fly to Sri Lanka as soon as possible and remain with the squad until Ponting returns from Australia, the statement added. The 36-year-old Pontings 100th Test victory of his career came on Saturday when Australia beat Sri Lanka by 125 runs. But the right-handed batsman will miss the celebrations as he heads back to Sydney to be with his wife Rianna. Australia will now move to Kandy where the second cricket Test will get underway at Pallekele Stadium from Thursday.
