LALAMUSA - The business community of Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin districts is going for annual polls on September 5 to elect eight corporate class and seven associate class executive members of the Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Electioneering is touching its heights and has entered into final stage as the elections date is fast approaching. All the candidates and their supporters are involved in hectic electioneering process and approaching voters at their doorsteps in almost all the major towns of both districts. The old contacts, relations and friendships once again are being renewed besides appeasing the displeased voters.

The Gujrat chamber is the common business forum of both the districts, having 878 and 118 registered voters of associate and corporate classes respectively. The main contenders are Shaheen Group panel which is led by Haji Nasar while the Founder Ittefaq Groups Alliance is led by Ishfaq Ahmed Razi and Javaid Butt.  Shaheen Group which emerged victorious in last four consecutive GCC&I elections at present enjoys overall majority in the house.  Javaid Butt, the head of Ittefaq Group, has been an enthusiastic of Shaheen Group and one time right hand of Haji Nasar but as both are associated with the PML-N), certain differences have arisen between them. Consequently, he parted his way from Haji Nasar and formed its own group in chamber politics though he did not disassociate himself from PML-N.

Later, he joined hands with old arch rival Founder Group just to inflict a big fist blow upon Shaheen Group. The Shaheen Group panel contestants for corporate class are Tariq Bilal Malik, Saeed Ahmed Butt, Ghulzar Hussain, Bilal Hussain Nayar, Nabeel Ahmed Ilyas, Aftab Ahmed, Ali Murtaza and Jamshed Iqbal whereas the alliance panel candidates include Amjid Farooq, Sabar Hussain Janjua, Malik Ejaz Ahmed, Shakeel Ahmed, Muhammad Jameel, Muhammad Ali Jan Qureshi, Aamer Saeed and Imran Ahmed.
