KARACHI- A 40-year-old inmate imprisoned at Central Jail Karachi died mysteriously on Wednesday.  Jail officials said Ashraf, 40, was an asthma patient and died on the way to Civil Hospital Karachi .
He was arrested by Surjani police few months back in a murder case and an FIR 200/14 under Section 302 was registered against him. Medicolegal officer said the victim was brought to the hospital when he was already dead. The cause of the death will be ascertained after the autopsy which will be conducted under the presence of magistrate.
Meanwhile, four policemen were wounded in a terrorist attack at a police post at Nursery area of Sharah-e-Faisal here on Wednesday. The locally-made bomb was exploded outside the police 15 check-post near Nursery. Following the blast, police post was partially damaged and cops on duty were also wounded. The glasses of nearby buildings were also shattered.
Rescuers from different welfare associations reached the site along with heavy contingent of the law enforcers. The injured cops were immediately shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The injured cops included Saleem, 42, Mahiwal, 43, Maqsood, 40, and Nasir, 35. Over half dozen policemen were present at the police post when the incident occurred. Police said two armed men riding a motorcycle threw the explosive device at the post and escaped.
Experts from the bomb disposal squad ruled out the possibility that the explosive device was fixed with the motorbike outside the police post. They said the handmade bomb was concealed in the container.
It was a modified version of hand cracker, explained a BD expert.
He said the bomb weighed around one kilogramme. Police believed it was a part of the ongoing attacks on the police in Karachi .
Ferozabad SHO Safdar Mashwani said the cops wounded in the attack were out of danger. He said the case had been registered against unidentified persons.
It is worth mentioning here at least 117 police officers and personnel have been killed in Karachi in the first eight months of 2014.
