KARACHI - A private security guard on Wednesday foiled a cash van robbery and killed a bandit.
A bandit was gunned down when he, along with his companions, attempted to loot the cash van of the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) at Suparco Road. The incident took place when four suspects riding two motorcycles tried to intercept the van.
The driver sped up the van in order to escape the robbery. Gunmen opened fire and wounded the cashier namely Akbar Aziz. The security guard on the van retaliated and during an exchange of fire, one out of four attackers sustained bullet wounds while rest of his companions managed to escape. The body of the attacker was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was later identified as Sagheer aka Nannu.
Police said he was the resident of Sacchal Goth and was also involved in various cases of robberies. A case has been registered. Further investigation was underway.
Meanwhile, a target killer involved in the killing of police personnel was also shot dead here on Wednesday.
An alleged Lyari gangster, involved in various cases of crime including targeted killings of cops, was killed in an encounter with the police in the outskirts of the City. The encounter took place when Anti-Violent Crime Cell police conducted a raid on a tip-off about the presence of the criminals at their hideout in Gulshan-e-Maymar locality.
During an exchange of fire, one suspect was killed while three of his companions managed to escape under the cover of fire. The body was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was later identified as Shaukat aka Shani. The AVCC officials said the killed criminal was the member of the Lyari gang war group namely Sajjad Khatri group. He was involved in a number of cases of targeted killings of cops, kidnapping for ransom and extortion.
