LAHORE - American Society of Safety Engineers Pakistan (ASSEP) President Syed Ahmad Ali Saturday urged the government to appoint safety managers in all newly-constructed buildings and industrial units to ensure safety of people especially workers.

He was addressing ASSEP seminar on "Importance of safety, health and environment for the sustainable development of Pakistan in perspective of Vision 2025" here at Cultural Complex.

Syed Ahmed Ali said the government should ensure proper training of safety managers implementing safety and environment rules and regulations. He also stressed the need for amending and formulating relevant laws in accordance with present day needs, besides creating massive awareness among the general public about the importance of safety and environment in the buildings and workplace.

Society's Vice President Syed Naeem Ahmad Subhani said that ASSEP would also hold similar seminars in other cities.

Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Director General Dr Arshad Zia was of the view that a balance in safety measures and environment was vital for sustainable development. He underscored the need for proper implementation of safety and environment regulations in construction phase of various structures. Former PES Dr Rizwan Naseer and Rauf Nasir also spoke on the occasion.
