PM to visit US on Sept 16 for UNSC meeting

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will depart for the United States on September 16 to attend a meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Waqt News reported Sunday.

According to details, the prime minister will have a six-hour stopover in Denmark, where he will meet Danish leaders, before resuming his journey to the US.

Sources said that PM Nawaz will address a UN General Assembly session and will meet several world leaders on the sidelines of the UNSC meeting. He will return to the country on September 24.

Although no reports have been made public pertaining to the contents of the prime minister’s speech at the UNGA session, Nawaz is likely to raise India-held Kashmir issue with the world body.

Few days ago, the prime minister, in a letter written to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, had asked the world body to send a fact-finding mission to India-held Kashmir to probe human rights abuses.
