LAHORE - Commissioner Lahore Khusru Pervez Khan has took strict notice of delay in the up gradation of two public hospitals, 'Kot Khawaja Saeed and 'Nawaz Sharif hospitals, and directed DCO Lahore Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta to ensure the same within next three weeks. He asked the DCO to complete the recruitment of staff and double the number of beds in emergency block and latest machinery be installed with every bed. The commissioner also directed DCO to ensure one staff nurse against every bed. He also asked the medical superintendents of the hospital concerned to submit a report to his office about the staff and machinery required. He also demanded the MS of the both hospitals to complete the construction work of the new blocks and rooms within minimum time period and install security cameras and walk through gates at the hospitals entrance. The commissioner also directed the departments concerned to remove encroachments made in and around the hospitals. He also asked the MSs to send him a report within a week about the special allowances scheduled to be granted to the doctors performing emergency duties. He directed the staff administration to ensure transparency in the utilisation of 'Zakat funds and also send a report in this regard to his office on monthly basis. PU students win diplomacy awards Punjab University Model United Nations (PUMUN) team has won two 'outstanding diplomacy awards at Harvard World Model UN Conference 2009 at Hague, Netherlands. The 11-member student delegation, accompanied by adviser students Prof Dr Makshoof Athar and Law College Assistant Professor Samee Uzair participated in the biggest student Model UN conference from March 22-27,2009. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Karmran and Law College Principal Prof Shazia Noreen Qureshi have congratulated the students team on their performance. The students who won awards included Syed Nishat Kazmi and Sher Afghan Malik. It is noteworthy that this was the first ever participation by a PU student delegation in World Model UN Conference. The students also visited the International Court of Justice and attended the Pakistan Day reception at the Pakistani Embassy in Hague. Shami greeted Director Institute of Communication Studies, Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz and faculty members congratulated Mujibur Rehman Shami for his election as President of APNS. They also felicitated Shoaib bin Aziz for his posting as Secretary Information, Punjab and Pervaiz Shaukat and Asad Sahi, the new PFUJ President and Vice President respectively.
