KARACHI - Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, and Statistics, Shaukat Tarin gave away the 3rd Pakistan Corporate Philanthropy Awards to public listed companies who under their CSR portfolio have made highest contributions for social development in the country. The award distribution ceremony was organised by Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) at local hotel, while leading businessmen, federal and provincial ministers, parliamentarians, senior government officials, civil society representatives and donors were attended the ceremony. On the occasion, Tarin lauded the role of PCP in effectively chanellising philanthropic giving and bridging the gap between multiple stakeholders including the government, the private sector, NPOs and communities for social sector development in Pakistan. He mentioned that the present global crisis, which has crippled economic growth, also provides an opportunity to consolidate such multi-stakeholder partnerships to reduce the incidence of poverty in the country. He stated that despite its low ranking in the Human Development Index, Pakistan is among the top philanthropic nations and corporate philanthropy is a shining example of giving for public good. From 2000, philanthropic contributions by the corporate entities have increased from Rs 228 million to Rs 1.67 billion in 2007. This needs to be continued. Later, Tarin gave away awards to Pakistan Petroleum Limited, Oil and Gas Development Co. Limited, Pakistan Services Limited, Nestle Pakistan Ltd and Jahangir Siddiqui and Co.
