ZAB's death anniversary breathes new life into PPP

KARACHI - The marking of the 30th death anniversary of the PPP founder hairman Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto has given a boost to the party and arrested the decline in its popularity that was still striking following the assassination of ZABs daughter Benazir Bhutto. The party that survived all the conspiracies and impediments since its birth in 1967 is still alive and kicking. This was manifested at the mammoth gathering at Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto where from the highest to the lowest gathered to pay homage to the man who brought hope to the oppressed masses of the nation. The greatness and the spirit of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, so evident at his death anniversary has given a new hope to the party workers who were being slowly disenchanted with the running of the government under the party. Though the party suffered a huge upheaval with the assassination of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto but the romance, the name and the fame of its great founding father kept the party alive, giving hopes to millions that the party has still not strayed away from its egalitarian agenda of Roti, Kapra Aur Makan. Quran Khawani and Fateha Khawani were held in all 22 districts of the province where people paid tributes to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and his daughter Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for their sacrifices to the cause of poor. The main ceremony was held at Friday midnight at Garhi Khuda Bux, resting place of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Hundreds of thousands of PPP activists, senior party leaders reached to Naudero and Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto. Thousands of people in queues visited the grave Shaheed Bhutto and his martyred daughter Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, and sons Shaheed Shahnawaz and Murtaza Bhutto. The anniversary programmes which started late on Friday night continued till Saturday evening. The caravans of PPP workers and leaders reached Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto from interior Sindh, the Punjab, the NWFP, Balochistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. All party workers and leaders observed two-minute silence at 2.05 am at the public meeting. The Sindh government had made elaborate security arrangements and deployed some 6,000 police force to maintain security. Scanners and walk through gates were installed at the entry points while body search was also carried out and sniffer dogs were also used. The organising committee of the ceremony had set up camps for accommodation and reception of workers and leaders coming from all the provinces, the Northern Areas and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Pakistan Railways operated special trains from Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi and Quetta, to facilitate the people for reaching Garhi Khuda Bux. PIA had also operated flight for Dokri Airport.
