PTCL pledges to drive change through ICT solutions

ISLAMABAD (PR): Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL) has reaffirmed its commitment to improve the standard of living of people, increase the productivity of businesses and drive change through integration of Information and Communications Technology services.

Senior Executives, human resource experts, national political leaders and eminent leaders representing various fields shared their views, experiences and strategies on bringing transformation in the leadership culture of the country.

Second annual conference on social sciences

LAHORE (PR): The Second Annual Conference on Social Sciences took place on 3rd-4th April 2014. Renowned scholars, academician and researchers from all over Pakistan took part in it. The second day of the conference i.e. 4th April, focused on the “Dynamics of Pakistani Politics: Issues and Challenges”.

The second day of the conference began with the welcome address by the Rector of Lahore School of Economics, Dr ShahidAmjad Chaudhry, who welcomed the presenters and gave a brief background to Lahore School’s introduction of English and Political Science as a major in the undergraduate programme.

The rector’s talk was followed by a key note address by Prof. SajjadNaseer, Senior Fellow in the Department of Political Sciences. Shehryar M Khan acting as the chairperson of the conference addressed the audience.

Construction of SKMCH&R in Peshawar continues

LAHORE (PR): The construction of Pakistan’s second Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Peshawar continues and so does the fundraising activities for this project. Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust recently organized various events and shows with the aim to provide healthy activities for the public and to also raise funds for the construction of Hospital. In line with this the next event will be organized on April 13 at Port Grand, Karachi. Shaukat Khanum Family Festival will be a day of fun and festivities for the entire family.

Some of the highlights of this event are Buggy Ride, Boat Ride, 6 D Cinema, Grand Circus, Mini Cars or Train Ride, Jumping Castle or Trampoline and last but not the least High Tea. All proceeds from this event will go towards the construction of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital in Peshawar.

UMT receives ‘SAP Associate Membership’ status

LAHORE (PR): The Department of Information System at School of Business and Economics has locked one of the most premium academic alliance with world class ERP provider SAP. By doing so, University of Management and Technology has received a status of “SAP Associate Membership”.

This has further leveraged the brand equity of UMT as a world class business school, which has successfully sealed 3 top ERP Solution providers (SAP, ORACLE, and Microsoft Dynamics) as its main academic partners.

Undoubtedly, this made SBE the only business education institute in Pakistan which has all three ERP solution providers on board at one point of time. Globally, this status is being shared only by Harvard Business School, and yet UMT has been able to get the same status under the leadership and guidance of Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad who was kind enough to dedicate a complete lab of computers for the execution of ERP software installations and its practical applications.

SNGPL, UET Peshawar ink MoU

LAHORE (PR): A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar, for sponsoring a Chair on Gas Engineering at Department of Mechanical Engineering of UET Peshawar. MOU was signed by Arif Hameed, MD SNGPL, and Engr Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, Vice Chancellor of UET, Peshawar.

According to MOU, SNGPL will sponsor a Chair on Gas engineering for research work regarding, alternate energy sources especially Solar Energy and developing innovative techniques for energy conservation. SNGPL will provide an annual grant of Rs. 3.32 million to Department of Mechanical Engineering of UET Peshawar on annual basis for the purpose.

SNGPL is already sponsoring two Chairs on Gas Engineering, one in Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology University of the Punjab, Lahore and the other in Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore.

Arif Hameed, MD SNGPL on the occasion emphasized that due to prevailing gap in demand and supply of natural gas, it is the need of the hour to find solutions to the problem of energy shortages.

Rotary District Governor

ISLAMABAD (PR): Mir Arif Ali has been elected as Rotary District Governor, District 3272 Pakistan. At the annual district conference held in Islamabad the other day, Mir Arif Ali was elected Rotary District Governor for 2016-17. Mir Arif Ali of Rotary Club of Lahore Model Town obtained 63 votes. Masroor J Scheikh of Rotary Club of Islamabad Downtown obtained 54 votes. Rotarians from all over Pakistan Rotary Clubs participated in two-day district conference.
