LAHORE - The PIA management on Friday issued termination letters of the 12 officials whose credentials were found fake, said spokesman of the airline.

The officials included Air League president and Passenger Service Assistant Ahmad Butt, Station Manager Karachi Syed Mansoor Ali, Passenger Service Supervisor, Rawalpindi, Aamir Nawaz Khan, Passenger Service Supervisor Irfan Shah, five passenger service supervisors – Imran Akram, Yasir Nawaz, Amir Jamshed, Khurram Shahzad, Tanvir Riaz Abbasi –, Baggage Attendants – Siddique Ahmad and Ghulam Mustafa – and Passenger Service Assistant Amir Mehmood.

When contacted, Ahmad Butt said he has talked to the PIA MD, and hoped that his matter was being reviewed since he had not submitted any fake degree.

The spokesman said that in compliance with the Supreme Court instructions, the PIA management has been vigorously pursuing the issue of credentials verification of its employees. He said that more than 30,000 degrees have so far been dispatched to the educational institutions concerned for verification.

Whereas, he said, more 3,000 degrees would be dispatched to the education institutions concerned for verification by mid of this month. Verification of more than 6,000 degrees has been received so far and out of which 350 degrees were found fake, he added.

The gigantic task of verification of credentials of around 16,000 employees was taken up by PIA’s Human Resource Administration Department six months ago (since October, 2013). The verification process is going on in a very transparent manner across the board encompassing all categories and groups of employees without any discrimination.

As per the Supreme Court instructions, a prompt action was taken against the fake degree holders according to Corporation’s Rules and Regulations. In the light of these actions, services of 300 employees have been terminated whereas remaining 50 cases are sub-judice in the court. It is worth mentioning that PIA has expedited the verification task; however, appropriate action can only be initiated once the education institutes concerned submit their reply.
