ISLAMABAD- The lawyers representing former President Pervez Musharraf have decided to move to court to get ex military ruler to visit his seriously ill mother, who is critical in a UAE hospital.
“We are ready to challenge the interior ministry’s order that bars Musharraf from traveling abroad. What remains to be decided is whether we go to supreme or high court”, said Ahmed Raza Kasuri. Kasuri, who is Musharraf's most outspoken counsel, told journalists that the legal team had taken a decision to this effect after holding a meeting with the former president at his Chak Shehzad farmhouse.
To a question, he said that the interior ministry’s order that places Musharraf’s name on Exit Control List (ECL) held no legal grounds. Earlier, the interior ministry had informed Musharraf that the government was “unable to accede to his request” of removing his name from the ECL “on the basis of record pronouncements of the superior courts”. Any person whose name is on the ECL is not allowed to leave the country.
