PESHAWAR - International professional golfer Shahid Javed Khan of Royal Palm Lahore took opening day lead with his gross score seven under 65 over 18 holes of the 54-holes National RMI Open Golf Championship which got underway at PAF Golf Course on Friday.  Chief Executive Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) Shafiqur Rehman was the chief guest who formally inaugurated the event. KPGA secretary Col Shahadat Hussain, Director Finance RMI Shahid Khan, players, officials and a great number of spectators were also present there.

Shahid, a winner of Asian Pacific Open Golf Championship held in Thailand and also six times national champion, carded 33, three under par at front nine and 32, four under par at back nine by recording eight birdies and just missed a stroke over hole No 16.

Another international golfer M Munir of Islamabad Golf Club, Latif Tafique of Lahore Gymkhana, Talib Hussain of CDA Islamabad, shared a joint second position with their gross score four under par 68 while M Khurshid of Islamabad and Khalid of Peshawar Golf Club shared third position with their gross score three under par 69. Munir carded 34 each at front and back nine with five birdies at hole no 6, 9, 12, 17 and 18 and missed a strong at hole no 14.
