LAHORE (PR): Thousands of trade union representatives and workers paid tributes to veteran trade union leader late Bashir Ahmad Bukhtiar on his 25th anniversary at a conference held on Wednesday at Bukhtiar Labour Hall under the aegis of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union.

It was addressed by journalist I A Rehman, Dr Amir Ahmed Additional Secretary Energy, Mayor, Lahore Metropolitan Corporation Mubashar Javed, Farooq Hameed Director Labour Welfare Punjab, Mujahid Pervaiz Chattha Chief Executive Officer, LESCO, Lahore along with trade union leader Khurshid Ahmad, Abdul Latif Nizamani and others.

The participants declared that late Bashir Ahmad Khan Bukhtiar not only played pivotal role to serve the working class but also contributed to the struggle of the independence of the nation.

His contribution was recognized by Father of the Nation by awarding him ticket on labour seat Punjab Assembly prior to partition.

The conference through various resolutions urged all forces and the working class to forge unity in order to establish an egalitarian society based upon fraternity, equality, transparency, democracy and social justice and to defeat the divisive forces based upon terrorism, parochial, ethnic and religious sectarian forces.

The participants demanded that the government should adopt National Action Plan for elimination of poverty, aggravating unemployment, rising day to day inequality between the rich and poor, feudalism and monopolistic capitalism from the country and allocate more resources for developing cheaper hydel electricity and water dams on emergent basis.
