In conversation with global adventure-athlete, Samar Khan

Samar Khan, the global adventure-athlete, snow-boarder and mountain-biker; from Lower-Dir, gave an exclusive interview to The Nation.

In her interview, she highlighted that the social-norms linked with gender-roles always provoked her thoughts in terms of her inclination towards sports in early childhood. 

She said she was an active student from a very early age, and the fact of belonging from an area with lowest temperature helped her culminate her passion to carry out adventure-athletics in mountains.

Pakistani snow-boarder said when she came into the field she had no one to guide or inspire. She said, “ The only motivation which was there, and is still there is the mountains, the strength and dominance of nature.”

She requested the sports-board to pay heed to the young talent by facilitating and guiding them to carry-out their passion in sports. She added that the sports-board also needs to extend the opportunities to smaller cities to hunt and gather better talent collectively. 

In her final message to the aspirants of adventure athletics, she said, “there will be a lot of  hurdles and hardships as your journey is the difficult journey”. Highlighting the consequences of fighting with personal fears, and believing in self-growth she said, “the difficult times always make you what you aim to become.” 

Moreover, Samar Khan is running her own sports-club called “Samar camp” where she trains youth in various disciplines related to sports including mountain-biking, training, snow-boarding, indoor and out-door sports.
