ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the government has evolved a comprehensive strategy to address the sufferings of the flood-affected areas of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Punjab. Talking to Governor Balochistan, Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi who called on him at PMs House, Premier Gilani said that a committee comprising Chief Minister Balochistan and the Federal Minister for Water and Power would sort out the issue of electricity subsidy to the tube-wells in the province. He reiterated the need to construct small dams to harvest the floodwater for irrigation purpose. The Prime Minister said that he had already extended invitation for dialogue to all the nationalist leaders of Balochistan for political reconciliation and restoration of peace and harmony in the province. He observed that political dialogue was the only way forward to sort out political differences and sustainability of the democratic process in the country. While reiterating the governments commitment to bring the under-developed areas of the country at par with other developed ones, he said that policy of reconciliation was a central plank in the Governments strategy because economic development was not possible without political stability. The Prime Minister said that the three-pronged strategy evolved to help the flood affectees included evacuation of the people marooned in the flood-hit areas; provision of food and medicines to control outbreak of epidemics and restoration of the main infrastructure, communication network and rehabilitation of the people. He further said that he had already directed all the concerned agencies to coordinate with the provincial governments to step up relief and rehabilitation activities. The Governor apprised the Prime Minister of the damages on account of the recent floods and torrential rains. He said that the districts of Sibi, Barkhan, Bolan and Kohlu were badly affected by the recent flash floods and heavy rains. He also apprised the Prime Minister of the steps taken to mitigate the sufferings of the flood affectees. Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi also informed the Premier about current security situation of the province and the steps being taken for further improvement. He briefed the Prime Minister about the status of the ongoing development projects in Balochistan.
