LAHORE - Shadbagh police killed an alleged accused in what the police claimed an encounter in the wee hours of Wednesday. Police investigators said that the deceased was identified as Asim, son of Aslam Butt and resident of China Scheme. They said that a police team under the leadership of SHO Allah Ditta was on routine patrolling when it signalled two youth to stop who opened indiscriminate fires on police, which was retaliated. During this firing episode, Asim suffered multiple injuries while his friend managed to flee from the scene. Police shifted the injured to nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead. Later, his body was moved to the City morgue for autopsy. No case was registered against anyone till filing of this report. Man commits suicide over poverty A 30-year-old unidentified poverty-stricken man committed suicide after he jumped on railway crossing near Mission Chowk in Raiwind area on Wednesday. Police investigators said that Shah Shamas Express crushed the deceased when he suddenly appeared on the crossing. Police after recovering the body made numerous announcements in nearby mosques but none of the citizens claimed to own the body. Police maintained that from apparent condition it seemed the deceased committed suicide due to poverty but nothing could be established before any tangible evidence. Later, an Edhi ambulance shifted the body to morgue for post-mortem.
