Gilani hopeful of political way out

BAHAWALPUR Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Sindh Cabinet has given authority to President Asif Ali Zardari to negotiate with political parties for maintaining law and order in Karachi. The Prime Minister said all political leaders, including Altaf Hussain, are being consulted for establishing peace in Karachi. He said establishing peace in Karachi was governments priority and consultation with all political leaders, including Altaf Hussain, was started. The Prime Minister was talking to journalists here on Thursday afternoon at Circuit House, Bahawalpur after attending a ceremony. Gilani expressed the hope that situation in Karachi would return to normalcy soon. He said the present regime had been trying its best to ensure law and order in the country particularly in Karachi to keep peace intact for public safety and security as well as national progress. Thats why, the government has been trying hard for better ties with all the political forces in the country. About MQM Chief Altaf Hussains latest statement about Karachi issue, he said everyone was free to express its opinion in a democratic system and the government had not imposed restrictions on anyone. Gillani assured that the issue of the Bahawalpur province would be resolved after consulting all the stakeholders and keeping in view the public demands. In this respect, a committee has been formed which will submit its recommendations in due course of time and a final decision will be taken. Gilani said the government was making all out efforts for the development of Southern Punjab. He said that area resources would be utilised on its development. To a question, he said that President Asif Ali Zardari had constituted a committee for the formation of new provinces. He said that for the first time, the country was exporting wheat due to better production. To another question, he said the problem of power loadshedding would soon be resolved as a number of projects in this regard were nearing completion while some were in the pipeline which would produce better results. Replying to another question, he said: Energy conferences were being called to overcome loadshedding and we have taken several steps to address the issue. Gillani said efforts were underway to provide maximum relief to the people and to resolve their problems. A number of development projects had been launched in the country for its progress. Earlier, the prime minister inaugurated a telecom project which would provide internet and telephone facilities to the far-flung areas of the Multan and Bahawalpur divisions 85 villages. He also awarded medals and certificates to the successful candidates of the Bahauddin Zikriya University and the Islamia University, Bahawalpur who had got IT training from Pakistan Software Export Board and the Universal Fund Service. He congratulated the successful students over completing the latest IT training and hoped that they would serve the nation and country with distinction. The prime minister also announced to set up an IT University at Bahawalpur and its sub-campus at Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar districts to meet the future challenges and to provide better educational facilities to the students of the area. Federal Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan were also present on the occasion. The prime minister said that his government believed in fair politics and public service. We have started a number of development projects for progress and prosperity of the country and public betterment so that we can face the people with confidence in the next elections and surely our policies will bring positive changes in the society and country, he added. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said, his father was like a friend, a mentor who always served as an inspiration for him. Prime Minister Gilani said that his father once advised him to keep politics away from emotions and added that he never allowed emotions based politics in line with the guidance of his father. Prime Minister Gilani said that his father used to invite friends and relatives on Iftar on every third day of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak which he added was the Death Anniversary of Hazrat Fatima-Tuz-Zahra (RA), the beloved daughter of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). He said that his father had also died on the third day of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak and they had been continuing to keep alive fathers tradition of holding Iftar during last 33 years.
