RAWALPINDI  – Under vigorous campaign against profiteering and hoarding special raids were conducted here by Price Control Magistrates during Ramazan-ul-Mubark and 42 persons found indulged in violation of law were sent behind the bars while fines amounting to one million rupees were also imposed in this connection.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar told that following the special directives of Punjab government; special teams were constituted to conduct raids against holders, profiteers and adulterers.

Price Control Magistrates started operation from first of Ramazan. Over 1268 kilograms unhealthy meat was confiscated and discarded and action in accordance with the law was taken against the butchers. A number of butchers were sent behind the bars, the DCO informed.

Various persons found involved in profiteering, not displaying price lists and violating hygiene standards were arrested. On the recommendation of the raiding team, 50 cases have been registered against the accused and they were sent behind the bars in respective profiteering would continue to ensure the provision of daily use items on controlled rates.

The steps are being taken aimed at providing relief to the consumers particularly during the holy month of Ramazan-ul-Mubarik, he added.
