HAFIZABAD - Keeping in view likely danger of flood in Chenab River after rains in the catchment areas, DCO Muhammad Asif has directed all the departments concerned to remain on "red alert" round the clock to meet any eventuality.

While chairing a meeting of the heads of different departments to review arrangements made to meet any eventuality during the likely flood in Chenab and Nullahs, the DCO ordered the EDO Health to start vigorous vaccination campaign against contagious diseases. He directed the Irrigation Department officers to visit the protective embankment on Chenab River and make necessary repair, if need. He said that he would show zero tolerance against any slackness or negligence on the part of any official. He was told by the revenue officers that in case of high flood in the river population of over 0.3 million in 165 villages might be affected. Nine relief centres on belt area have been set up.  According to the Irrigation Department spokesman, river is discharging 76,857 cusecs at Khanki Headworks while 63,139 cusecs at Qadirabad which may increase during the next 12 hours.

Two kidnapped: -Some unknown armed accused kidnapped local landlord Qaisar Abbas and his young nephew Adeel Tariq from near their Dera in village Chhaangi-Satrah, Daska tehsil here on Saturday.

DSP Waseem Akhtar told the newsmen that the police had registered a case and was conducting raids at various places for the early recovery of the abducted persons.

The Rescue 1122 fished out a dead body of an unknown person from Marala-Ravi-Link (MR Link) Canal near village Saahowala here. They handed over the body to local police for further investigation.
