Dwellers hold protest against land leasing

LOWER DIR (ABDULLAH MADANI) – The representative and elders of three tribes of Timergara on Saturday held a protest demonstration against the district administration and Works & Services Department for leasing out a piece of land on Balambat Road situated near the district Press Club Timergara.
The protesters while carrying placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands also marched on the road from Timergara General Bus Stand and after passing through the main bazaar culminated in front of the district press club.  They also blocked the main Shaheed Chowk for some while.
Those who spoke on the occasion and later at a news conference included Qazi Haji Saeedur Rahman, Qazi Ghawsur Rahman, Qazi Khaliqur Rahman, Sheikh Saifur Rahaman, Sher Zamin Khan, Sheikh Muhammad Saeed, Sheikh Fazal Razaq, Sheikh Abdur Raouf Khan and Malak Ajbar Khan. They said their elders had given the land to the government in 1977 for the purpose of construction of link road. Now if the government did not need the link road then it should be returned to real owners.
They alleged the District Coordination Officer (DCO), District Officer Revenue  (DOR), Tehsildar Timergara and authorities of the Works and Services department were equally responsible in the matter as they wanted to deprive owners of their land.
The elders said that they had not donated the land to the government for erecting shopping plazas and other things rather than for construction of a link road so that burden on the main road could be minimized.
They also warned to move the court if their demand was not met by the Lower Dir administration.
