KARACHI - A ‘Neighborhood Watch Programme’ would be introduced in various residential, business and commercial areas of the metropolis.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired here on Saturday by the IGP, Sindh, Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari.

It was stated that the programme was aimed at fostering liaison between the police and the community and making the process of surveillance more effective. A vigilant eye would be kept on the suspects as well as their activities and improve the security matters. The IGP Sindh also directed that for the introduction of the neighborhood watch programme a strategy should be evolved. He said that the very purpose of this programme is to control crimes with the cooperation and participation of the community.

The IGP was of the view that this would also help towards cleansing the society of the crimes.

He said that the community policing was a philosophy which gives rise to undertaking concerted efforts for ridding the society of crimes.
