On July 26, 2016, two incidents of violence occurred, one in India and the other in Pakistan, both in the name of religion. In the Indian state Madhya Pardesh, two Muslim women were brutally beaten up at a railway station under the allegation that they were carrying beef. In Pakistan, a Hindu youth was killed for allegedly burning pages of the Holy Quran outside an old mosque.

Religious violence is a very complex phenomenon. Oversimplifications of religion often lead to misguided understandings which pave way for religious violence. Moreover, often, religion is used as a means to justify violence especially in the more illiterate masses. Religious leaders are obligated to present the true picture of religion which is completely against any form of violence.
