In Indian-Held Kashmir (IHK), ‘authorities’ have placed top Hurriyat leaders Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house detention and arrested Muhammad Yasin Malik in Srinagar as the valley is observing a complete shutdown against the assault on the special status of Kashmir.

Syed Ali Geelani continues to be confined to his residence, while Mirwaiz has been placed under house arrest at his Nigeen residence in Srinagar. Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested in a police raid. Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai has also been put under house arrest.

These leaders were detained in a bid to stop them from leading protests over the assault on Article-35A. The authorities also arrested Hurriyat leaders Ghulam Ahmad, Mohammad Yousuf, Mukhtar Waza and Bashir Ahmad from their residences. Other leaders, including Hilal Ahmad War, Bilal Sidiqui, Zafar Butt and Javed Ahmad Mir have been placed under house arrest.
