Islamabad handed over to Rangers, commandos

ISLAMABAD - Over 2000 personnel of Rangers, Elite Force, Frontier Constabulary (FC), and police commandos have been deployed in the Federal Capital to avoid any law and order situation during Jamaat-e-Islamis sit-in at D-Chowk, Parade Ground today (Sunday). Talking to TheNation, Deputy Inspector General Police, Banni Ameen, said that over 2000 security personnel from commandos, Rangers, Elite Force, Frontier Constabulary (FC), and police had been deployed. He said that police would seal the area to China Chowk. To ensure the security walkthrough gates would be placed at the entry points and teams would search the areas before the sit-in starts, he added. He said that the hospitals of the city would be on high alert and the ambulances would be alert to control any untoward incident during sit-in. To a question, he said that the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad was in touch with the central leadership of the Jamaat-e-Islami. However, the security arrangements have nicely planed for the sit-in. When The Nation contacted, SSP Traffic, Dr Moeen, said that the parking lot had been allotted to participants of the sit-in in the green belt near D-Chok. About 200 traffic policemen would perform their duties. However, Geo Chowk would be opened for the traffic moment When The Nation contacted, Hafiz Sajjad Qamar, Central Organiser Jamaat-e-Islami, said that thousands of the JI workers from the Centre and provinces would participate in the sit-in. The central leadership that includes Syed Munawar Hussain, Liaqat Baloch, Professor Ibarahim and Sirajul Haq would lead the sit-in. To a question, he said that the sit-in participants would demand of the Government to immediately release the missing parsons, control unemployment and inflation and withdraw Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST).
