LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting here on Saturday, which reviewed availability and prices of sugar. Member Provincial Assembly Khawaja Salman Rafique, Hafiz Mian Nauman, Dr. Saeed Elahi, Chief Secretary, Secretaries of Food and Industries, Commissioner and District Coordination Officer Lahore and officers concerned were present. Addressing the meeting, the CM said the supply and price of sugar should be closely monitored and its supply to the people at the rate of Rs 72 per kg should be ensured. He said availability of sugar in the market should be further improved and it should be available at all shops of the provincial metropolis within 24 hours. Hoarding of sugar will not be allowed and no one will be permitted to exploit the masses, he added. Meanwhile, newly-appointed Political Counsellor of British High Commission Ms Joana Roper met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and discussed matters of mutual interest. The CM said various projects in health and education sectors were being implemented in different areas of Punjab with the British assistance. He mentioned that the DFID was playing an important role for the uplift of education sector in Punjab for the last number of years. Joana Roper said Britain was taking keen interest in the uplift of health and education sectors in Punjab and assistance would continue in this regard.
