KARACHI – Six more fall prey in the ongoing wave of target killings in the country’s commercial hub here on Tuesday.

According to details, an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Siddiq, 35, Allah Rakha, was shot dead in an attack near Guru Mandir within Jamshed Quarters police remits.

Police said the deceased was the resident of Jahangir Road area and was associated with MQM unit-56. He was on his way when gunmen riding a motorbike targeted him and escaped. Police handed over the body to the family after autopsy and suspected that the killing occurred on political grounds.

A joint sector in-charge of Sunni Tehreek was shot dead near Jail Chowrangi within the remits of Jamshaid Quarter police station.

Police said that Zahid Qadri, resident of PIB Colony, left home to mosque when some unidentified gunmen chased and killed him near his residence. He was taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Police suspected the he was killed on political grounds.

Similarly, an owner of the printing press was gunned down outside his press in Nazimabad area in Gulbahar Police precincts. Deceased was identified as Rehan Khan, 30, Khalilur Rehman, who was said to be the supporter of MQM. Police said two armed men riding a motorcycle shot him dead when he was sitting outside his press. Victim’s elder brother is associated with the MQM while nothing could say about the motive behind the incident. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

Forty-year-old Liaquat Hussain, son of Ameer Hussain, was shot dead near Banaras Flyover within Pirabad police remits. Police said that deceased was the resident of Frontier Colony area and was standing near Banaras flyover when he was shot dead by some armed motorcyclists over unexplained reasons. His body was taken to ASH for autopsy.

Arshad, 35, son of Ashraf, a resident of Azam Basti, was gunned down near his home within the jurisdiction of Mehmoodabad police station. Police officials ruled out the possibility of targeted killing and said that the initial investigation suggested that the victim lost his life on offering resistance in a robbing bid. He was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment where he succumbed to injuries.

Police have found the body of scrap dealer from the bushes in Gulshan-e-Maymar police limits. The deceased was later identified as Gul Muhammad, 36. Police officials said that unidentified culprits after stabbing him to death threw his body at an abandoned place while police were trying to ascertain the motive behind the incident.

A young man namely Syed Kashif, son of Syed Imam, who was injured near his home in Phool Wali Gali within Gulbahar police remits, three months ago, succumbed to injuries during treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital. Police said victim belonged to Shia sect. He was shot once in his chest by armed motorcyclists over sectarian basis.

EYEWITNESS IDENTIFIES ACCUSED IN ABBAS TOWN BLAST: An eyewitness has identified accused in Abbas Town bomb blast before judicial magistrate.

Accused Attaullah was presented before Judicial Magistrate Malir on Tuesday, where eyewitness Zafar confirmed identification of the accused.

CID police had arrested accused Attaullah from Manghopir and recovered explosive material from his custody.

It may be noted here that two persons had lost their lives in Abbas Town bomb blast on 3rd Muharram.
