LAHORE - Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan has said the government removed Tariq Malik as Nadra head in exercise of its constitutional authority and it will defend its position in the court that has reinstated him.

Talking to media people outside the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday, the law minister said Tariq Malik was appointed as the Nadra chairman by the PPP government. He said it was prerogative of the federal government to remove a Nadra chairman, but in the case of Tariq Malik, the government fully accepted his reinstatement through the judiciary. However, he said the government would defend its position before the court of law and accept its decision.

To a question regarding the opposition protest in the House on various issues, Rana Sana said it had adopted a queer attitude and was marring the House proceedings through protests on different pretexts. Rana said PTI wanted to stage a drama in the Punjab Assembly as it was doing on drones in Khyber PK. He alleged PTI wanted to push the country to chaos, but the government would not let it happen. At the same time the law minister lambasted the opposition, saying it was newly born and would soon learn how to behave in the House.

To a question, he defended the treasury calling the PTI a Jewish agent when the latter labelled the government as an American agent in the House on Tuesday. Replying to a question, on the impending change of guard in the apex judiciary, he said retirement of a person did not diminish respect of any institution. When a question was asked about action against the officials after the fact-finding report on the Rawalpindi carnage on Ashura, he said a committee comprising the Punjab chief secretary and the IGP had been constituted to sort out the procedure for taking action under the rules and regulations.
