LAHORE  - A spokesman of Irrigation Department has clarified a news item, which appeared in a section of the press, regarding postings and transfers of junior officers as Chief Engineers in Irrigation Department.

He said that the post of Chief Engineer (BS-20) is required to be filled on the basis of selection on merit. He said that seniority is not only the criteria for promotion of Chief Engineer who is also the head of the attached department. He said that decision regarding appointment of officers against the posts of Chief Engineers has been made after detailed in-house deliberations and examining their service profiles and track record. They were also interviewed separately to determine their suitability for the post, he added.

As regard the posting of Riaz Rashid, Superintendent Engineer UCC, as LBDC, the spokesman clarified that Riaz Rashid has only been assigned the additional charge of the post of Project Director as a stop-gap arrangement. The post of PD LBDC has already been advertised and this stop-gap arrangement will come to an end after appointment of a regular Project Director, the spokesman concluded.
