LAHORE - Thousands of devotees paid respect to Syed'Ali bin Usman Hajveri (RA) commonly known as Data Ganj Bakhsh on the second day of 966th annual Urs of the saint at his Mazar. People from across the country particularly from Lahore and Punjab thronged the Mazar to lay floral wreaths, chaddars and offerings at the shrine. Special cash boxes were also erected at a number of places outside the shrine for the convenience of the devotees. A large number of devotees also attended the religious meetings held at the Darbar Mosque where ulema and mashaikh threw light on the teachings of Data Ali Hajveri (RA). They said that reading and understanding of Kashful Mahjoob was never so pressing as it was today. The saint truly painted the human degradation as well as the false mystic pursuits which are now rampant in our society, they added. As many as four sessions and a Mehfil-e-Naat was held at the Darbar Mosque, which was attended by eminent mashaikh. A mehfil-e-Qirat was also held on the occasion. On Thursday morning, a grand mehfil-e-Sama was inaugurated at the Darbar Complex which was also attended by thousands of devotees. Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Chairman Data Religious Purposes Committee was the guest of honour. Minister Auqaf Haji Ihsanuddin Qureshi, Secretary Auqaf Najam Saeed, DG Religious Affairs Muhammad Shabbir Malik, Administrator Rao Fazal Hussain, former MPA Khalil ur Rehman Chishti, Syed Nazim Hussain, Member RPC Col (Retd.) Yousaf, Incharge Milk Sabeel Ch. Muhammad Ali and other prominent persons were present. Prof. Dr. Ismatullah Zahid conducted the proceedings. Earlier, Chairman Sama Committee ex-MNA Ch. Zulfiqar Ali in his welcome address said that the committee members not only decorate the hall voluntarily but meet the entire requirements of the grand Mehfil-e-Sama in which hundreds of qawwals perform for two days and in 52 Thursdays of the year and other religious events. Meanwhile, the audience showered thousands of currency notes on qawwals. Rizwan Moazzam and Mujahid Mubarak Ali Khan followed by Mehr Ali Sher Ali performed in the inauguration session which was rounded off before Zohr prayers with the prayers for the solidarity and integrity of the country and progress of the nation by khateeb Jamia Mosque Darbar Qari Muhammad Ramzan Sialvi. Renowned Qari, Qari Ghulam Rasool, Altaf ur Rehman Pasha, Abdus Razzaq Jami also performed. The special evening session of Mehfil-e-Sama was relayed on Radio Pakistan from 10 pm to 1 pm. The second day celebrations came to end around 2.30 am in the wee hours of Friday with the distribution of lungar, Khatam-e-Ghousia and prayers for the well being of the participants in the world and hereinafter. The celebrations were also at its peak in the surrounding areas of shrine at Lower Mall Road, Pilot Hotel premises and Bhatti Chowk where people performed in Urdu and Persian mystic poetry.
