MIRPURKHAS - A joint meeting of Farmer Organization Council Sindh, Sindh Agriculture Research Council and Tail Abadgar Association on Sunday decided to stage a protest demonstration outside the press clubs on February 6 over the inordinate delay in issuing a notification of cane price of Rs 182 per 40kg.

The meeting was held on Sunday at Junejo house, which was presided over by Javed Ahmed Junejo and attended by Zahid Noon, Mukhtiar Narejo, Muhammad Khan Marri, Paras Narejo, Murtaza Otho, Hameed Baloch, Imamuddin Maher, Mir Muhammad Marri and others.

It was told the meeting that annual desilting of Nara canal and its branches including Jamrao, Mithrao, Thar, Khipro canals and other distributaries had not been completed and irrigation authorities had released the water in canals.

Junejo, speaking at the meeting, alleged that funds provided for desilting remained till preparing fake bills and misappropriation of huge funds.

He blamed that after releasing the water in canals, irrigation authorities were supplying water to their favourite’s farmers and political personalities.

He further alleged that funds were continued in lining work of canals and distributaries as Sindh High Court had already been taken notice in this regard and NAB Karachi inquiry continued at Jamrao canal and Rohri canal but we did not believe in the inquiry report. We have jointly decided to be party in Sindh High Court in this regard, he added.

Meeting adopted various resolutions demanding the government to ensure desilting of canals, distributaries and minors in Nara canal command area, order the inquiry against corruption of funds of irrigation department, distribution of water supply be made judiciously.

Inquiry be ordered against substandard work of lining work of canals and distributaries and ensure water supply till tail end abadgars including Kherao, Doso minor, Mirpur distry, Sanhro distributary, Lakhakhi minor etc.
