A 35-year war

This is with reference to a joint press conference by Talal Bugti and JI Chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed. Before I write anything else, I wish to remind your readers that parties of both these leaders had opposed creation of Pakistan when it came into existence. Balochi Sardars refused to join the new country and went around India, Iran, Britain and Afghanistan asking for help in their effort to break away from the new country. The JI had also opposed Pakistan until it was made. Both these anti Pakistan elements have now got together to undo Pakistan. I think Islamabad should go on the offensive against these parties demanding ever more provincial autonomy. They should be told that as per the constitution, any change to be made would require a two-thirds majority. If Sardars can get this majority, they can make the change. But if they can't, under no circumstances would any further autonomy or independence be given. Then, if Sardars decide to raise their guns, they should know that Islamabad would also do the same. If Sri Lankan can fight their traitors for 35 years, so can we. -Z. ISRAR, Karachi, via e-mail, December 28.
