CJ directs action against DSP

ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has remarked that majesty of law lay in the fact that it was blind and those who were violating the rules of law in society would not be allowed to set up hegemony in the state. They will have to lick the dust as the courts were free in implementing their decisions to give relief to the poor as well as the oppressed people of Pakistan, CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry said in a human rights case on Monday. He was heading a three-member bench hearing a case of polices high handedness in Lahore. According to details, the Lahore police reportedly murdered a young man in a fake encounter. A resident of Lahore Rana Nazir whose son Noman Ali alias Kashi was murdered by the Lahore police in a fake encounter had moved the court seeking exemplary punishment for the culprits. The CJ ordered the IGP to proceed against the culprits. Who will follow the laws if the law makers break it, he remarked. The court ordered IGP to take action against a DSP Imtiaz Bali in killing of Noman in the alleged fake encounter. The apex court also asked CJ, Lahore High Court to take action against the special judicial magistrate Lahore Tariq Qureshi for validating the fake encounter. DSP Imtiaz, who is now on interim bail provided by LHC Multan bench, is facing charges on multiple accounts including rape, murder and kidnapping. Niazs daughter (A) also accused the DSP of raping her during her captivity in custody of Lahore police. Earlier, the case took a new turn when the DIG, Shoab Dastgeer said that according to his investigation report the encounter was false. He had been ordered to investigate into the whole matter. He said, police investigation found the DSP guilty of staging a fake encounter. A case of kidnapping has also been established against him, the DIG added. Besides, the CJ lauded the efforts of the DIG police as well as the SP investigation Jawad Qamar for conducting a fair and detailed inquiry probe into the whole matter professionally. Niaz sought justice from the apex in murder case of his son and rape of his daughter (A) and requested Chief Justice to order medical test of his daughter as he (Niaz) did not believe in the medical report. Chief Justice told Niaz that the Supreme Court had referred the matter to IG Punjab, adding, He will do justice with your case InshAllah.
