QUETTA-PML-N Quaid and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday declared that the grievances of Baloch people could not be addressed unless the murderers of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti were put to trial. He stated this while addressing a Press conference at the residence of provincial party leader Sardar Yaqub Nasir on Monday. PML-N leaders Ahsan Iqbal, Pervez Rashid, Khawaja Saad Rafiq and Khuda-e-Noor were also present on the occasion. Strongly condemning the brutal murder of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, Nawaz Sharif said that he (Bugti) was a true Pakistani and had taken oath under Constitution of Pakistan several times. 'Assassination of Nawab Bugti on the basis of personal enmity is indeed highly condemnable, he said, demanding that the killers of Nawab Bugti should be called to account in order to embalm the wounds of Balochistan. 'We must find out the causes behind dissatisfaction of our Baloch brothers and seek solution to this problem, he said, adding, that serious and practical steps were indispensable to redress their grievances. He further said concrete efforts should be made to bring disgruntled Baloch people into political mainstream and to provide political, social and economic justice to them. To a query regarding missing persons, Nawaz said all missing persons including those from Balochistan should be recovered. 'Apology alone does not work or solve the problems, he added. Responding to a question, Nawaz said his party did not support mid-term elections, but wanted 17th Amendment repealed. He vowed that his party would continue its struggle for the abolition of this amendment. He said Balochistan was very close to our hearts as the leaders of this province including Nawab Bugti, Sardar Attaullah Mengal, Mehmood Khan Achakzai and others had thrown their weight behind the PML-N in the repeal of the 8th Amendment in 1997. 'PPP Chairperson late Benazir Bhutto had also played an important role in abolishment of the 8th Amendment, he said, adding, that former President Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari was the only person who had supported the 8th Amendment. Strongly rejecting the impression that his party was the friendly Opposition, Nawaz said the performance of the PML-N should be gauged for his role in issues like National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and restoration of deposed judges. Earlier, Nawaz Sharif presided over a meeting of provincial organising committee at the residence of partys central leader Sardar Yaqub Khan Nasir. Speaking on the occasion, Nawaz said democracy and corruption could not go side by side, adding, that democracy which could not eliminate corruption was not real democracy. The PML-N leader said his party loved democracy but 'we could not enjoy its real fruits unless corruption was eradicated from the country. He further said that the rights of Baloch people on their resources should be accepted and development projects of Balochistan be completed in the stipulated period. He said terrorism would not have taken roots in the country had there been rule of Constitution and law. He said former dictator Pervez Musharraf had no legal right to carry out military operation in Balochistan and added that the killing of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti was a cruel act. Chief organiser of PML-N Balochistan chapter, Khuda-e-Noor, Sardar Yaqub Nasir, Nawabzada Changez Marri, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Senator Pervez Rashid and others were also present on the occasion. Earlier on his arrival at Quetta airport, Nawaz Sharif was received by Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Aslam Raisani, provincial ministers, party leaders and workers at the Quetta Airport. Later, PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif visiting Bugti House. He offered Fateha for the departed soul of late Nawab Akbar Bugti and held a meeting with President Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) Nawabzada Talal Akbar Bugti. He said that murderers of Bugti must be punished demanding constitution of a commission comprising judges to investigate the killing. The commission should submit its report in three months. Talking to newsmen, he said had President Zardari implemented Charter of Democracy Pakistan would have avoided crisis. He said PML-N singed CoD setting aside all differences for strengthening democracy in the country. We respect the mandate of incumbent government and want good relations with President but we will never make compromise on principles, he said. He said former President Pervez Musharraf forcefully inducted 17th Amendment in the Constitution. He regretted and said that despite lapse of two years incumbent government was unable to abolish 17th Amendment. Prime Minister has said that work of committee for cancellation of 17th Amendment is in final stage. This is a healthy move, he added. Responding to a question, regarding Indian interference in Balochistan, PML-N leader said that if New Delhi is involved in deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan then govt should produce evidences. Later on, JWP President Nawabzada Talal Akbar Bugti hosted a dinner to honour Mian Nawaz Sharif which was also attended by other PML-N leaders including Ahsan Iqbal, Pervez Rashid, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Khudai Noor Khan, Sardar Yaqoob Khan, former Balochistan Governor, General (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch. Nawaz also held a sitting with Chairman Pashtoon Khwa Milli Awami Party Mehmood Khan Achakzai at his residence. Both leaders discussed provincial and national issues and agreed that provision of rights to all units of the federation would strengthen country and democracy. PKMAP leader Mehmood Achakzai said that everyone living in the country must be given his due right and all the units in the federation should be given control over their resources. He said country was passing through a critical juncture due to terrorism. We should understand the gravity of the situation and should clear our position before the world, he reiterated. Nawaz while praising Achakzais democratic approach said during his exile days he played a positive role for restoration of democracy. PML-N leader also met with Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani and discussed with him a host of issues. Sources in Balochistan government said Nawaz Sharif on a proposal given by PPP leader in Balochistan Assembly Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, authorised Aslam Raisani for holding a political jirga to improve relations between PPP and PML.
