KARACHI - Title holders Wapda slammed Punjab Whites 12-0 in the group league match of the 26th PIA National Women's Hockey Championship that began here at HCP on Tuesday with captain of the team Azra Nasir scoring eight goals that included double hat trick. Anisa Bashir added two goals while Rabia and Amana netted once each. Pakistan Railways created a sort of record when they defeated Islamabad by 23 goals to nothing margin. Zaibunissa contributed ten of the winning goals for the Railways which may pose serious threat to the defending champions in the ten team event. Ayesha Bashir netted nine, Saman three and Sehrish one goal for the winners. In other two matches of the day Sindh Whites beat Balochistan 5-0. Rozina(2),Asma, Fatima and Ambreen one goal each were the goal getters for the home team. KPK scored 4-1 win over Sindh Colour. Fakhra Nayab and Gul Pari equally shared the scoring honours for the winners. Qurratul Ain netted losers lone goal. PIA, NBP and HBL are financially supporting the event which will be played under the PHF rules and regulation. The PHF has already announced that players of the age of 30 years will not be eligible to represent any team. If a player is found breaching the age restriction rule, action under PHF rules would be taken against the player and the team manager. Players age would be determined by her CNIC and other documents which will be checked before the start of the match. Sindh and Punjab are fielding two teams each. Pakistan Railways and Pakistan Army teams would be challenging the title holders Wapda in the eight day long event. The championship would be played on round robin league format. Top two teams from each groups will qualify for knock out semi finals. The participating teams have been placed in two groups. In Group A are: Wapda, Pakistan Army, Sindh Colour, Punjab White and KPK.
