PESHAWAR - Thirteen militants were killed and six others sustained injuries after the security forces targeted their hideouts in Kurram Agency Wednesday.

The forces targeted militant hideouts at Jogi area, killing 13 extremists and wounding six others. Three hideouts were also damaged in the operation by the forces. Separately, five security men sustained injuries in a road accident in Dogar and another two were wounded when a hand grenade went off accidentally at Gul Shah Kalay area of Kurram Agency.

Meanwhile, six people, including four girls, sustained wounds when the house of a pro-government tribal elder was detonated at Lower Kurram Agency. The injured were identified as tribal elder Haji Muhammad Saleem Orakzai, his brother Sardar Khan Orakzai, Shumail, 12, Seema, 8, Safeena, 7, and Zainab, 10.

His house was damaged completely.

According to sources, the explosive device had been planted at the main gate of the tribal elder’s house.

The pro-peace tribal elder, who is the son of former Member of National Assembly Saleh Khan Orakzai, has been receiving threats from militants as he had played a vital role in restoring peace in the area.
