Citizens take to the street against power, gas tariff hike



JHANG - The representatives of various religious, trade and political organisations have rejected raise in power and gas tariffs and ‘oppressive’ taxes levied on the poverty-hit masses, demanding their immediate withdrawal and warned the govt of protests sit-ins and rallies.
Anjuman-e-Tajran President Haji Mohammad Ali, Tanzeem-Islami’s Mukhtar Hussain Farooqi, Government Contractors Association president Muhammad Arif, Jamaat-e-Islami District President Bahadur Khan Jhakhar and other speakers said that the PPP government was violating its own manifesto and instead of giving relief to the poverty-stricken masses, it was depriving them of ‘Rooti, Kapra aur Makan.’
The speakers said that this unjustified increase would badly disturb not only already sick industrial units but also common people. They warned that indefinite strikes sit-ins and protest rallies will be taken out if the government does not withdraw all these taxes and tariffs.
