QUETTA – At least five alleged militants were killed and 10 others were arrested after a gun-battle in Zhob district, some 350 km from Quetta on Wednesday.

According to reports, upon presence of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan commander, Ainul Zaman Akhundzada, security forces carried out a raid in Murgha Kabzai area of Zhob bordering with Waziristan. 

Seeing security personnel the alleged militants opened fire with sophisticated weapons. The security personnel also retaliated and killed five alleged militants besides arresting 10 others. The house of Taliban commander and two vehicles were destroyed due to firing. However, the Taliban commander managed to escape from the site.

Talking to media persons, Deputy Commissioner Hamid Kareem confirmed the incident and said the number of militants killed in the battle was yet to be confirmed.

Sources said heavy contingent of security forces had been sent to Murgh Kabazai area as firing between militants and security personnel continued for several hours.

When contacted spokesman of Frontier Corps said that five militants were killed and two personnel of paramilitary troops Frontier Corps (FC) sustained injuries during a armed clash near Murgha Kabzai in Zhob district. According to spokesperson of FC, security forces received information about the suspects in Murgha Kebzai area and sent troops when it reached there, unknown persons opened fire on them from a compound in the area. Two FC personnel were injured. FC personnel returned fire and killed killing five militants.

FC personnel during a search seized a rocket launcher and several machine guns.

Spokesperson said that security have been beefed up in Qila Abdullah, Pishin and Qila Saifullah after an increase in the incidents of kidnapping for ransom. Six officials of Balochistan Rural Support Program (BRSP) were also kidnapped from Barshor area of Zhob few weeks earlier and yet to be traced.

Inspector General FC Major General Ubaidullah Khan praised the performance of FC that it acted on time with the cooperation of local people. He said the FC with the cooperation of local people will retain peace across the province.

Meanwhile, five people were killed in separate incidents of firing and landmine blast in Dera Bugti and Jaffarabad districts on Wednesday.

According to police sources, unidentified armed men shot dead two people in Sangsila area of Dera Bugti. The deceased were identified as Abdul Samad and Kangha. The local administration moved the bodies to hospital for autopsy and later handed over to heirs.

Separately, two Tribal Peace Force men were killed in the same district near Pat Feeder area in a landmine blast. Hammal Bugti and Hatwar Bugti were on their way when one of them stepped on a landmine.

In another incident, unidentified gunmen killed Abdul Ghani Marri in Dera Allayar area of Jaffarabad near Jamali Bypass. Motive behind the killing is to be ascertained yet. Police have registered a case against unidentified people and started investigation.
