ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s former ambassador to US Husain Haqqani Wednesday decided to file a review petition in the Supreme Court over its verdict for appointing a probe commission to look into the alleged memo affair.

He made this decision after holding a meeting with his legal aides Asma Jehangir, Syed Zahid Husain Bokhari, Idrees Asharf and Sajid Tanoli. It was decided that Syed Zahid Bokhari would lead the legal team. Bokhari also represented late Benazir Bhutto in 90s in a number of cases filed against her to politically victimise her. He will be assisted by Sajid Tanoli advocate, a well-known lawyer of Rawalpindi/Islamabad.

Asma Jehangir and Idrees Asharf advoate will be working on the review petition that will be filed soon. The lawyers in their meeting with their client decided to prepare a solid defence to fight the legal battle at all fora. It was again resolved that while Mr Haqqani will present himself to any inquiry conducted under due process of law, his fundamental rights will be protected under all circumstances and if need be, legal actions to ensure that could be taken in Pakistan and abroad, said a statement issued to media.

Zahid Bokhari is a senior advocate with more than 40 years of experience in criminal law. He was appointed as judge of Lahore High Court in 1995. He was also appointed as Punjab prosecutor general in March 2009. He served as member Punjab Bar Council (2000-2004) and was elected as chairman of Legal Education Committee and Disciplinary Committee of the Punjab Bar Council.
