ISLAMABAD - The core committee of Pakistan People’s Party meeting here today to discuss the fast changes taking place on the political horizon of the country particularly the challenges facing the government on judicial front.

Sources in the PPP informed that the issue of NRO implementation case would be on top of the agenda of the meeting while the summoning of President Zardari by the three-member judicial commission on memo controversy would also figure in the meeting.

Similarly, the party leadership would also devise the party’s strategy regarding the upcoming Senate elections due in March while the issue of carving out new provinces in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa, without annoying their coalition partners would likely to be discussed on the occasion.

The sources in the party informed that the party leadership was worried about the last notice given by the Supreme Court regarding the implementation of NRO verdict of the apex court and writing of letter to Swiss authorities for opening up of the corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

The sources in the party informed that the legal wizards in the party were divided over the issue as one group was of the opinion that the government should not write a letter to Swiss authorities as the President of Pakistan enjoys immunity to any sort of criminal proceedings both within the country and abroad.
