LAHORE– The counsel of an Indian convicted spy Sarabjit Singh has said that he is expecting a kind decision by President Asif Ali Zardari on the fresh mercy petition moved on behalf of the prisoner.

Advocate Awais Sheikh was addressing a press conference here on Wednesday. He said the fresh mercy petition of Singh had been succeed in attaining special attention of the President. The release of Singh would help success of peace dialogue between two neighbouring countries, Mr Sheikh believed.

He said Indian convicted spy was to be released on last Pakistan Independence Day (Aug 14, 2011) in exchange of Pakistani prisoner Khalil Chishti, however, the decision was withdrawn at eleventh hour when Indian authorities denied to release Mr Chishti.

Replying to questions, Advocate Sheikh claimed that following a pledge which he made before Lahore High Court, during his recent visit, he urged the Indian authorities over to speed up the process of repatriation of Pakistani citizens languishing in Indian jails for last many years.
