ISLAMABAD - An application has been filed in the Supreme Court for ensuring security to Mansoor Ijaz, who wants to appear before a judicial commission probing the memo scam.

The judicial commission summoned former ambassador Husain Haqqani and American businessman Mansoor Ijaz on January 9. Moulvi Iqbal Haider, chairman of Awami Himayat Tehreek Pakistan, submitted an application under Article 184(3) of the Constitution and made the federation through the secretaries of law, justice and parliamentary affairs ministry and defence ministry and director general of Pakistan Rangers respondents. He contended that the appearance of Ijaz before the judicial commission was essential for just, fair, transparent and impartial conclusion of the inquiry into the issue. He said it was the responsibility of the respondents to provide security to Ijaz from the date and time of his arrival in Pakistan till his departure to the destination of his choice.

He apprehended that Ijaz could be involved in false cases in order to harm his life, liberty or dignity.

He prayed that the director general of Pakistan Rangers be directed to provide all necessary protection for the security, dignity and not to hand over Ijaz to any agency or law enforcement agencies.
