Ten armed highwaymen deprived about 25 textile labourers of their hard-earned salaries and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees here on Jaranwala Road near Sharqpur in wee hours on Saturday. The labourers were on the way back home in Sharqpur and other adjoining localities in the factor van after completing duty. When reached near Canal Bridge, a band of armed bandits intercepted them and started snatching cash and other valuables from them turn-by-turn. Meanwhile, some of the labourers attempted to resist them but were beat up in return by the culprits. Later, the victims namely Asghar Ramzan, Nazeer, Mansha and others staged a protest against the worst law and order situation and demanded arrest of the robbers as early as possible.

Meanwhile, in another incident, two armed bandits stormed into the office of Gohair Filling Station near Mananwala on Faisalabad Road in broad daylight on Saturday. They held the manager namely Zafar Iqbal and cashier Arshad hostage at gunpoint point and took away cash amounting to Rs400,000. Later security guard rushed to chase the outlaws but they thrashed him severely and snatched his gun. The Mananwala Police are looking into the matter.
