MIRPURKHAS - Negotiations between the high-ups of four sugar mills of Mirpurkhas division and Divisional Commissioner Shafique Ahmed Mahesar successfully concluded here on Thursday as it was decided that sugar mills would start crushing within next 24 to 48 hours.  Talking to the media, Mahesar said that sugar mills should have started crushing of the sugarcane by now as already half of the season had passed and the sugarcane crop was losing its weight, causing losses to the farmers. He warned the sugar mills’ owners that if they did not launch the start of crushing season, then next year the growers would avoid sowing the sugarcane, and this would definitely dent their economic condition.

He further said that sugar mills could get less profit in this season, while the next year they would get more profits.

The commissioner said that boilers of the mills would be open from today while payments would be made to the growers as per the decision of the Sindh High Court (SHC), and said that mills’ owners had promised him in this regard.
