Two killed over ‘honour’

KHAIRPUR - A young man  and a girl were shot dead near Ghotki over honour. According to details, four armed persons barged into a house in village New Wahi near Ghotki and opened fire at 22-year-old Nazeer Ahmed Mahar  and Shahida Mahar due to which they died on the spot while the attackers managed to run away from the spot.

On receiving information, police reached the spot and took the bodies into custody. Later, the bodies were handed over to their relatives after the postmortem. Honour is stated to be the motive behind the murders. However, police did not arrest any accused nor had registered an FIR till the filing of this news.

  Several protesting sugarcane farmers held

Several growers were arrested while several others were injured during protest against against sugar mills’ owners for purchasing sugarcane from them at low rates.

Hundreds of growers protested in front of Khairpur Sugar Mills and blocked Naro Dho Road.

Police reached the spot, used shells and also beat up the protestors due to which several growers were injured. Police also took into custody over 30 of them. Meanwhile, talking to newsmen, the protestors alleged that despite making commitment, the owner of Khairpur Sugar Mills was not purchasing the sugarcane at the officially announced rates.

They said that they would aproach the Sindh High Court (SHC) against assistant commissioner Kotdji , SSP Khairpur, Tando Musti and Kotdiji police and sugar mills administration.
