Foreigners accused in Cotecna Reference case summoned

Judge of Accountability Court Rawalpindi, Syed Najam ul Hassan Bukhari has again summoned foreigners accused in Cotecna Reference case. Cotecna is a corruption reference of receiving kickbacks while awarding contract to a Swiss company. In this reference, beside former chairman of Central Board of Revenue Mr Siddique, President Asif Zardari and Begum Nusrat Bhutto were also the accused. Hearing the Cotecna Reference against President Asif Ali Zardari and other foreigners accused, the court directed Additional Deputy Prosecutor General of NAB, Malik Jamil to inform the court after getting details from Foreign Ministry. It may be mentioned here that President Asif Ali Zardari enjoys immunity in this reference under article 184-A of the Constitution and therefore, no action is being taken against him. On Monday, Additional Deputy Prosecutor General of NAB, Malik Jamil Awan told the court that no report has been received from the Foreign Ministry regarding summoning foreigners accused in the reference. The august court on this directed him to inform the court after getting information from the Foreign Ministry. Syed Ishtiaq Haider, Counsel of former Chairman CBR, AR Siddiqui, co-accused in the reference, told in his written application that his client did not appear in the court due to illness and sought approval of his application. The court, on this, adjourned the hearing of the reference till August 2.
