Lahore win Punjab Judo Championships

LAHORE Lahore earned the maximum 33 points to clinch the Punjab Judo Championships title which were organised under the banner of the Punjab Judo Association. Sheikhupura were on second spot with 15 points while Okara claimed third position with eight points. As many as 10 teams from various divisions of the Punjab participated in this event. Bouts were held in seven body weight groups which included 50 kg, 55 kg, 60 kg, 66 kg, 73 kg, 81 kg and open weight group while the fights were held on a knock-out basis. There was a very keen contest among the participants whose bouts were watched by a very large crowd. Renowned surgeon of the country Dr Fahim Butt was the guest of honour and distributed the medals and prizes among the winners. After the conclusion of the event the Secretary Punjab Judo Association Shahid Javed Malik spelled out the detailed program of the association for training and coaching of the players in the Punjab. Results: (1st, 2nd, 3rd) 50kg: M Usman (Lahore), Wajid (Okara), Aftab Ahmed (Pindi) and Dawood (Sheikhupura). 55kg: Nadeem (Sheikhupura), Aftab Ashraf (Lahore), Zia (Bahawalpur) and M Ali. 60kg: Faisal Awan (Lahore), Ali Imran (Sheikhupura), Sohaib Siddiqui (Gujranwala) and Irshad Hussain (Faisalabad). 66kg: Majid (Lahore), Haris Butt (Sheikhupura), Awais Ahmed (Pindi) and Abid Hassan (Okara). 73kg: Ameer Ali (Lahore), M Jehangir (Gujranwala), Wajehullah (Sialkot) and Mehroze (Bahwalpur). 81kg: M Abid (Lahore), M Amin (Okara), Umer Butt (Gujranwala) and Shahbaz (Bahwalpur). Open weight: Abid Ali (Lahore), Harris Butt (Sheilkhupura), Rashid (Okara) and Yaseen Mughal (Sialkot).
